We Get Old Because We Stop Playing
When was the last time you did something and completely lost track of time?
When was the last time the weather forecast didn’t affect your day?
When was the last time you played the sport you LOVED when you were a kid?
If you can’t remember the dates of any of these questions, AND you find yourself feeling either “stuck” or in “constant mind numbing motion”, keep reading…
Remember When…
When we were kids we learned an INCREDIBLE amount of skills and information in a very short period of time
Imagine, we go from small bundles of soft fluff to tiny human beings capable of running, jumping, swinging, playing sports, making friends, exploring and understanding our worlds in a short 5-6 years
How…? Through Play
Scientist have determined it takes 400 repetitions to built new synapses in our brain, unless it’s done in play, in that case it takes 10 to 20
-Karyn Purvis-
No Really…How?
Play has a significant impact on the development and growth of new synapses in the brain.
When children engage in play, they actively explore their environment, use their imagination, and engage in social interactions, which stimulates the release of brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF)
BDNF is a substance that promotes the growth of new synaptic connections and strengthens existing ones
Research suggests that the brain's ability to adapt and change, known as neuroplasticity, is influenced by play
Play also aids in the development of executive functions such as problem-solving, self-regulation, and attention span.
Adults Are Just Bigger, More Developed Kids
There is no research suggesting we ever lose the ability to learn, grow and adapt
So…get out there and play, join a league, shoot hoops, play a round of golf, get your friends together and play cards
AND
Make it FUN!
Make it a GAME!
Enjoy!
